Guaifenesin
(Syrup)

Composition:
Each teaspoonful ( 5 ml ) contains:
Guaifenesin................100 mg

Properties:
Guaifenesin is believed to stimulate receptors in the gastric mucosa that initiates a reflex secretion of respiratory tract fluid so promotes lower respiratory tract drainage by thinning bronchial secretions, lubricates irritated respiratory tract membranes through increased mucus flow, and facilitates removal of viscous, mucus.
As a result, sinus and bronchial drainage is improved, and dry, non-productive cough becomes more productive and less frequent.

Indications:
Symptomatic relief of irritating non-productive cough associated with upper and lower respiratory tract congestion, coryza, Pharyngitis and bronchitis when these conditions are associated with congestion and viscous mucus in the lower respiratory tract.

Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to active or other constituents.

Precautions:
For diagnostic test of carcinoid syndrome, it has been found that Guaifenesin metabolite produces an increase in urinary( 5 - hydroxy indole acetic acid) so this drug should be discontinued 24 hours prior to the collection of urine specimens for the determination of this metabolite.

Pregnancy and Lactation:
It should not be used except if clearly needed.

Side effects:
Vomiting, occasional nausea, gastric disturbances and drowsiness.

Dosage & administration:
Children:
From 2 - 6 years old:
50 - 100 mg( ½ - 1 teaspoonful) every 3 - 6 hours (600 mg / day is the maximum dose).
From 6 - 12 years old:
100 - 200 mg ( 1 - 2 teaspoonfuls) every 3 - 6 hours (1200 mg / day is the maximum dose).
Adults:
100 - 300 mg (1 - 3 teaspoonfuls ) every 3 - 6 hours (2400 mg / day is the maximum dose).

Storage:
Keep away from light at temperature not exceeding 30°C.
Keep out of reach of children.

Presentation:
Bottle of 120 ml.
