Composition:
Each tablet contains :
Griseofulvin ....................125 mg, 250 mg, 500 mg.
Properties:
Griseofulvin is the drug of choice for
widespread or intractable dermatophyte infections. It is
fungistatic against species of Microsporum Epidermophyton &
Trichophyton.
The drug is well absorbed orally. The peak plasma level occurs
at about 4 hours & ranges between 0.5 - 2 mcg / ml following a
dose of 500 mg Griseofulvin.
Indications:
Dermatophyte infections of the skin,scalp, hair
& nails.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to griseofulvin, porphyria,
hepatocellular failure and pregnancy.
Side effects:
Hypersensitivity reactions are the most common
side effects. Nausea, vomiting, epigastric distress, headache,
fatigue, dizziness, insomnia and
mental confusion may occasionally occur.
Precautions:
Photosensitivity reactions may occur, avoid
prolonged exposure to sunlight or sunlamps.
Lupus erythematosus or lupus-like syndromes have been reported.
Drug interactions:
Griseofulvin may decrease the
hypoprothrombinaemic activity of warfarin, patients may require
anticoagulant dose adjustment.
Barbiturates usually depress griseofulvin activity, concomitant
administration may require a dose adjustment of the antifungal
agent.
Dosage:
Adults:
0.5 - 1 gm / day as single or divided doses with or after meals.
Children:
10 mg / kg body weight daily with or after meals.
Storage:
Keep at temp. not exceeding 30°C.
Keep medicine out of reach of children.
Presentation:
Box of 20 or 1000 tablets.
