Dextromethorphan
(Syrup)

Composition:
Each teaspoonful (5 ml ) of the syrup contains:
Dextromethorphan hydrobromide..............................7.5 mg
 
Properties:
Dextromethorphan hydrobromide is a non-narcotic cough suppressant. It acts on the cough centre in medulla oblongata to elevate the cough threshold. It does not produce analgesia, tolerance or potential for addiction. The onset of action occurs within 30 minutes after oral administration and lasts for about 6 - 8 hours. It is rapidly metabolized with trace amount in blood and urine.
About half of the administered dose is excreted in urine as conjugated metabolites.
 
Indication:
For the relief of irritating non-productive cough associated with respiratory tract infections.
Contraindication:
Hypersensitivity to Dextromethorphan hydrobromide.
ln patients receiving mono-amine oxidase inhibitors.
In patients at risk of developing respiratory failure.
 
Use during pregnancy & lactation:
It can be used when clearly indicated by the physician
 
Drug-Drug interactions:
Dextromethorphan toxicity may arise with the concomitant use of Antiarrhythmics.
Side effect:
Side effects include dizziness, gastro-intestinal disturbances, but are transient and disappear after withdrawal of the drug. 
 
Dosage:
Children 2 - 6 years......................1 teaspoonful every 6 - 8 hours.
Children 7 - 12 years....................2 teaspoonfuls every 6 - 8 hours.
Adults & Children over 12 years ....2 tablespoonful every 6 - 8 hours.
 
Storage :
Keep at temp. not exceeding 30°C.
Keep medicine out of reach of children
 
Presentation:
Bottle of 60 or 120 ml.
