Composition:
Solvex syrup:
Each teaspoonful (5ml) contains:
Carboxymethyl cysteine ……………….. 250 mg
Solvex capsules:
Each capsule contains:
Carboxymethyl cysteine ……………….. 375 mg
Properties:
Carboxymethyl cysteine is a
systemically active mucolytic agent that
achieves a high blood level concentration
after oral administration.
It acts by:
► Attaching the
disulfide bonds of the thick mucous fibers
to cause the complete
fragmentation.
► Reducing the
viscosity of the mucin secreted by the
respiratory mucosa. It also protects the
mucous membrane against
irritation of
inhaled gases.
Indications:
All cases associated with excessive viscous sputum, such as:
► Pneumoconiosis
► Chronic
bronchitis
► Tracheobronchitis
► Emphysema
Contraindications:
Peptic ulcer.
N.B.:
Patients should be expecting an increase of
excretion flow.
Safety has not been determined during the
first trimester of pregnancy.
Over dose:
Gastric lavage
may be beneficial, followed by observation.
Treatment symptoms: GIT disturbance.
Dosage & route of administration & duration:
Adults including the elderly ……………… 750 mg, 3 times
daily and reduced to one capsule daily when
a response is obtained.
Children:
2-5 years ……………………. 62.5-125 mg, 4 times daily.
6-12 years ………………….. 250 mg, 3 times daily.
Incompatibility:
Mixture of
pholcodeine linctus may cause precipitation
of carbocysteine from the solution.
Side effects:
Gastro-intestinal symptoms such as nausea,
diarrhea or GIT (Gastro-intestinal tract
disturbance) bleeding and skin rash may
occur.
Storage:
Protect from light and the temperature not exceeding 30°C.
Keep medicine out of reach of children.
Presentation:
Syrup: bottle of 60 and 120 ml.
Capsules: box of 20 capsules.
