Composition:
Acetylcysteine ................................. 200 mg
Properties:
► Acetylcysteine
has a mucolytic activity through its free
sulfhydryl
group, which acts directly on the mucoproteins to open the disulfide
bonds and thus lowers the viscosity of the mucous and
facilitates its
removal by the muco-cillary
action and expectoration.
► Acetylcysteine
improves the phagocytic capacity of the
alveolar
macrophages. He also protects lungs
from a variety of insults.
► Acetylcysteine
is readily absorbed after oral
administration. Peak plasma
concentration
being attained in 2-3 hours. Concentrations
in the lungs are
similar to those in plasma.
About 20% of a dose is excreted in the urine
through 24 hours.
► Acetylcysteine
effervescent instant is a new pharmaceutical
form that
ensures optimum stability, rapid
dissolution, maximal absorption, high
bioavailability in a perfectly calibrated
dosage.
Indications:
► Disorders of
the respiratory tract associated with
excessive viscous
mucous such as in
bronchitis,
pneumonia,
asthma,
bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis and the routine cleansing of
tracheostomies
► Chronic sinusitis
► Mucoviscidosis
► Manifestations
associated with smoking & exposure to other
irritant inhalers
Precautions:
Acetylcysteine must be used with cautions in patients with
history of peptic ulceration and avoided in
patients with active ulcer
Dosage & route of administration & duration:
Dissolve the content of the sachet in half glass of water
to get a palatable effervescent solution and
drink immediately
Adults .............................. One sachet three time daily
Children ........................... 1/2 sachet three time daily
Adverse effects:
Nausea, vomiting, heart burn and diarrhea have been rarely reported
Storage:
Keep at temp. not exceeding 30°C.
Keep medicine out of reach of children.
