Jojoba oil is a natural product used since ancient times as a potent skin protector.
Jojoba oil is extracted from seeds of Jojoba shrub (Simmondsia Chinensis (LINK) Schnider). It is made of chain of esters of mono-unsaturated long chain fatty acids and fatty alcohols and has average total carbon chain length of 4 carbons; so; it is classified chemically as liquid wax.
Researches showed that Jojoba liquid wax possesses the six general factors that increase permeation in stratum corneum, low viscosity, high unsaturation, low saponification number which together help to avoid the two important causes of premature aging of the skin: dryness & lipid peroxidation.
Jojoba oil is characterized by having 50% of its content as unsaponifiables, whereas all other vegetable oils contain around 2-3% only, applying unsaponifiable to skin increases elastin formation which is known to be responsible for skin luster, elasticity and integrity.
Jojoba liquid wax was also proved to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, & antimicrobial effects. Five of the most common bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus & Pseudomonas aeroginosa as well as Fungus Albicans were not able of growing in Jojoba liquid wax.
It is neutrally PH balanced and reveals beneficial effects for dry and damaged skin.
