Composition:
Each capsule
contains:
Fexofenadine hydrochloride...........120 or
180mg.
Properties:
Fexofenadine is a new
generation antihistamine which acts
selectively on peripheral h1receptors.
Fexofenadine is an active metabolite of
terfenadine. it has rapid and long lasting
effect, with no sedative or ant cholinergic
effect. It is rapidly absorbed with peak
plasma concentration after 1_3 hour . it has
a half life of 11-15 hour. Fexofenadine
undergoes minor metabolism as its substance
is detected in urine and faeces.
Indications:
Symptomatic treatment of
allergic disorders requiring
treatment with antihistamine (h1 blocker)
e.g.
Dermatitis, Urticaria,
Allergic
rhinitis,
Sinusitis& other allergic
conditions.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine
hydrochloride.
Children under 12 years old.
Dosage & route of
administration & duration:
For adults and
children over 12 years old: One capsule
daily or as directed by physician.
Drug
interaction:
Antacids
containing aluminum and magnesium hydroxide
reduce absorption of Fexofenadine.
Erythromycin or ketoconazole increases the
level of Fexofenadine 2-3 times, but with no
effect on QT interval.
Omeprazole was found to have to have no
significant interaction with Fexofenadine
In pregnancy: Preferably not to be used in
pregnancy, though extensive studies revealed
no teratogenic effect on animals.
In lactation: Not recommended in lactating
females.
Side
effects:
Headache,
nausea, dizziness, and fatigue may appear in
rare cases.
Storage:
Keep at
temperature not exceeding 30°C.
