Composition:
Each chewable
tablet contains:
Magaldrate.......................... 480 mg
Properties:
Magaldrate antacid, is a combination of
aluminum and magnesium hydroxides and
sulfates that neutralizes hydrochloric acid
in gastric secretions. The combination of
aluminum hydroxide with magnesium hydroxide
has the advantages of a rapid onset ( due to
magnesium hydroxide ) and the long duration
of ( aluminum hydroxide ). Meanwhile the
constipation and delayed gastric emptying
produced by ( aluminum hydroxide ) is
opposed by the reverse effect of ( magnesium
hydroxide).
Indications:
Magaldrate is used to prevent and relieve
pain in gastrointestinal disorders
associated with gastric hyperacidity as in:
► Dyspepsia.
► Gastro-
Esophageal Reflux disease.
► Peptic ulcer.
Contraindications:
Renal failure.
Precautions:
In patients
with chronic renal failure especially
children who received large doses of
aluminum hydroxide, osteomalacia,
encephalopathy and microcytic anemia have
been associated with aluminum accumulation .
Adverse effects:
Constipation or
diarrhea.
Osteomalacia, encephalopathy and microcytic
anemia in patients with renal failure.
interactions:
Oral citrates
increase aluminum absorption from the
gastrointestinal tract.
Ascorbic acid enhances aluminum absorption
from the gastrointestinal tract.
Due to its content of aluminum hydroxide,
Magaldrate decreases the absorption of some
other drugs from the gastrointestinal tract,
thus it is advised to be used 2 - 3 hours
before or after the intake of other drugs.
Dosage and route of
administration & duration:
1 - 2 tablets
to be chewed 2 - 3 times daily.
Storage:
Keep at temp.
not exceeding 30ºC
Keep out of reach of children.
