Composition:
Each 100 ml contains:
Ketoconazole.......................2 gm
Properties:
Ketoderm gel
contains ketoconazole the synthetic broad -
spectrum antifungal agent.
Ketoderm gel has a potent antimycotic
activity against dermatophytes such as
trichophyton Sp., Epidermophyton floccosum
and microsporum Sp. and against yeasts.
Usually Ketoderm gel acts very rapidly on
pruritus which is commonly seen in
dermatophyte and yeast infections. This
symptomatic improvement is observed before
the first signs of healing are observed.
Ketoderm gel is not a primary irritant and
is devoid of allergenic, sensitization or
phototoxic potential on topical application.
Ketoderm gel does not produce detectable
blood level after topical application.
Indications:
Ketoderm gel is
indicated for topical application in the
treatment of dermatophyte infections of the
skin :
Tinea corporis, tinea cruris, Tinea manus
and tinea pedis due to trichophyton rubrum,
trichophyton mentagrophytes, microsporum
canis and epidermophyton floccosum, as well
as in the treatment of cutaneous candidiasis
and tinea (pityriasis) versicolor.
Ketoderm gel is also indicated for use in
seborrhoeic dermatitis & dandruff of the
scalp , a skin condition often associated
with the presence of the yeast P. oval.
Contraindications:
Ketoderm gel is
contraindicated in individuals who have
shown hypersensitivity to ketoconazole.
Warnings:
Ketoderm gel is not for ophthalmic use. Irritation
may occur when Ketoderm gel is used immediately after prolonged treatment with
topical corticosteroids. Therefore it is recommended to continue applying the
topical corticosteroid in the morning and to apply. Ketoderm gel in the
evenings, and to subsequently and gradually withdraw the steroid therapy over a
period of 2 - 3 weeks. In case a potent steroid is used, replace it by a mild
steroid and withdraw therapy over the same period.
Adverse effects:
A few instances
of irritation and burning sensation have
been observed during treatment with Ketoderm
gel.
Dosage & route of
administration & duration:
Ketoderm gel
should be applied to affected areas once
daily in patients with tinea corporis, tinea
cruris, tinea manus, tinea pedis, tinea
versicolor and cutaneous candidiasis.
Treatment should be continued for a
sufficient period, at least until a few days
after disappearance of all symptoms. The
diagnosis should be reconsidered if no
clinical improvement is noted after 4 weeks
of treatment. General measures in regard to
hygiene should be observed to control
sources of infection or re-infection.

The usual duration of treatment in
seborrhoeic dermatitis & dandruff of the
scalp is twice weekly for 2 to 4 weeks.
Maintenance therapy is applied once weekly.
