Composition: |
Each teaspoonful ( 5 ml ) contains:
Guaifenesin.......................................100 mg
|
| Properties: |
Guaifenesin is believed to stimulate receptors in the gastric
mucosa that initiates a reflex secretion of respiratory tract
fluid so promotes lower respiratory tract drainage by thinning
bronchial secretions, lubricates irritated respiratory tract
membranes through increased mucus flow, and facilitates removal
of viscous, mucus.
As a result, sinus and bronchial drainage is improved, and dry,
non-productive
cough becomes more productive and less frequent.
|
| Indications: |
Symptomatic relief of irritating non-productive
cough associated with upper and lower respiratory tract
congestion, coryza, Pharyngitis and
bronchitis when these
conditions are associated with congestion and viscous mucus in
the lower respiratory tract.
|
| Contraindications: |
Hypersensitivity to active or other
constituents.
|
| Precautions: |
For diagnostic test of carcinoid syndrome, it
has been found that Guaifenesin metabolite produces an increase
in urinary( 5 - hydroxy indole acetic acid) so this drug should
be discontinued 24 hours prior to the collection of urine
specimens for the determination of this metabolite.
